Tech Support Engineer

As a leader in providing digital workflows to the motion picture industry, Mission provides innovative solutions to ensure we can achieve maximum efficiency through the production pipeline. Servicing studios that include Universal, Netflix and Amazon we are looking for a key member of our team to act as the interface between our clients/production team and technicians, supervising digital dailies workflows.

Mission is quickly growing as this role has the scope to expand in the future to support a wide range of services; there is of course the day to day duties of the job role but there is also an element of RnD testing and working to improve systems and try out new ideas.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

 

As our DIT and digital dailies service offerings expand to meet the demands of a booming industry, we’re looking to recruit a Data IO Operator to be the bridge between our Technicians, Digital Dailies Labs and Production. This role has been well established, but is forever growing. We are looking to add to our current system whilst we benefit with someone’s external experience, individuality and unique perspective.

 

Mission’s data IO team is a small but fast growing department, tasked with supporting some of the biggest film and drama productions shooting in the UK and abroad.

 

With a passion for technology and efficiency, this job is well suited to someone who enjoys being hands on with professional computer hardware, software and media management tools. 

 

Our data IO team is looking to grow further over the coming months and as a result we need someone with strong interpersonal skills and team spirit.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
 

The ideal candidate has a very strong IT background and all the film industry related skills are helpful, but given a choice on film experience vs IT experience we are looking for the former, the latter being a good bonus.

The role is fast-paced, has many moving parts and requires a candidate that is fast thinking, knows how to prioritise and can tackle tasks one at a time in the most efficient manner possible. Core responsibilities are covered below, however, given the pace at which we are growing and the spaces we are looking to innovate in, a level of flexibility is required:


List of responsibilities:

  • Liaising with our production team to establish workflows tailored to each individual project and build documents to reflect that workflow.

  • Work closely with all the teams at Mission to ensure smooth day-to-day operation.

  • Providing support for Missions operators and technicians out in the field, with a primary focus on supporting digital dailies labs.

  • Supporting the Data-IO team at Mission and helping to ensure a consistent service across all projects.

  • Help fulfil any in-house processing or archiving requirements that may be necessary.

  • Manage a number of services provided by Mission.

  • Help maintain and develop infrastructure at Mission, This includes but is not limited to:

  • IT systems and admin

  • User account management across a multitude of platforms

  • Gaining an understanding of TPN guidelines and making sure they are being implemented

  • Helping to maintain a secure working environment.

  • Checking audit logs and CCTV

  • Research and development, testing of new hardware and software and new services

  • Acting as T2/T3 Technical support for staff and field operators

Helpful skills (not all are required and can be trained but more the better):

  • Strong communication skills- an ability to listen to the requirements of a project and interface from a technical perspective. Communicate effectively with the written word and in email, messaging and documentation.

  • Attention to detail across all aspects of their work.

  • The ability to prioritise and multitask effectively.

  • Strong technical mind with an understanding of computer software and hardware.

  • Good to high level of understanding of networking infrastructure such as switch and firewall management.

  • Knowledge of  SAN, NAS, AD services. RAID systems.

  • Understanding of filesystems, disk storage and LTO tape format and archival processes.

  • Good knowledge of camera formats, metadata management and a basic understanding of colour pipelines.

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills - documents, spreadsheets, presentations.

  • The ability to investigate issues and problem solve technical, logistical and personal complications.

  • Scripting and automation
