Mission Becomes the UK’s First HDR Vivid-Certified Grading Facility

ree

We’re proud to share some exciting news: Mission Digital has become the first HDR Vivid-certified grading facility in the UK.

The certification was officially awarded at IBC, marking a milestone both for us and for the filmmakers and studios we work with. HDR Vivid represents the next generation of high-dynamic-range imaging, ensuring that creative intent is preserved all the way from production to the audience’s living room.

Our Screening & Grading Room at Shepperton

At the heart of this achievement is our Digital Screening & Grading Room at Shepperton Studios. Built as a space for critical review and colour grading, it has hosted multiple Academy Award-winning cinematographers and international creative talent.

The room is equipped with:

  • A Christie DCI projector on a 4-metre screen

  • A 31-inch Sony HDR/SDR reference monitor

  • A newly installed 77-inch UHD 4K HDR display certified for HDR Vivid

This HDR Vivid display supports HDR10 and HDR10+ but goes further by delivering HDR Vivid at up to 1,600 nits peak brightness. For the first time, filmmakers in the UK can grade in HDR Vivid and immediately see how their work will look on consumer HDR Vivid-enabled televisions.

Why This Matters

For us, HDR Vivid is the natural next step. We’ve always invested in colour science and were early adopters of ACES colour management and Dolby Vision. Now, with HDR Vivid certification, we can provide filmmakers and studios with a complete end-to-end workflow, from HDR Vivid mastering through to playback demonstrations on certified TVs.

As Kevin Shaw, our Head of Colour, explains:

“HDR Vivid allows us to give filmmakers and studios cutting-edge tools to ensure their creative vision is presented exactly as intended—whether for global audiences or the rapidly growing Chinese market.”

Joining UWA

Alongside this certification, we’re delighted to have joined the UHD World Association (UWA), the global organisation behind HDR Vivid. We look forward to collaborating with UWA and contributing to its mission of advancing UHD standards for the creative industries.

Looking Ahead

Becoming the first HDR Vivid-certified grading facility in the UK isn’t just a badge for us. It’s a commitment. A commitment to helping filmmakers achieve the highest standards of image fidelity, a commitment to preserving artistic intent, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in colour and workflow.

We’re excited to showcase these capabilities at IBC and to continue working with filmmakers and studios who want their work to look its very best - on every screen.
